Residents at the Shiner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was abuzz with the imminent visit of the Shiner St. Paul High School football players and cheerleaders on the eve of their TAPPS Division III state final game against Cedar Hill Trinity Christian at Bastrop Memorial Stadium.
The residents had a number ready to welcome the athletes - whip and nae nae dance moves to the sounds of "Watch Me" by Silento. Pretty hip for a crowd with no roots in hip, or hop for that matter. The cheerleaders had their end of the entertainment covered, too, with cheers to encourage their gridiron counterparts.
Laughter filled the floor.
Pom pom-armed ladies danced in their wheelchairs, relatives took pictures with their cellphones.
When it was over, the whole football team formed a line to meet and greet the residents in a touching scene of generational memories mixed with expectations of victory against the Tigerson Friday night.
